One of our favorite ways to experience Washington, DC is by getting around like locals, riding Capital Bikeshare or hopping on the Metro. Biking makes it easy to move between monuments, museums, and neighborhoods while enjoying the city’s wide paths, parks, and scenic views. When we’re covering more distance, the subway is just as convenient, efficient, and stress-free, letting us explore without worrying about traffic or parking. Using bikes and public transit not only makes getting around simple, but also adds to the overall experience of seeing DC at a relaxed, immersive pace.

  • Recommend adding the SmartTrip Card onto your phone to tap pay for the Subway

  • To truly see and enjoy Washington, DC without feeling rushed, we recommend 3–4 full days.

We also highly recommend taking the ride out to Dulles to visit the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum’s Udvar-Hazy Center, it’s well worth the trip to see the space shuttle, SR-71, and massive aircraft you can’t experience on the National Mall.

One of the most fun parts of the National Mall is grabbing a bite from the food trucks nearby. With everything from hot dogs to tacos and ice cream, they’re a quick, casual way to refuel and keep exploring.

We love Washington, DC because it blends rich history, beautiful architecture, and wide open green spaces in a way that feels both inspiring and easy to explore. Whether we’re biking past monuments, visiting museums, or relaxing in the parks, the city always leaves us wanting to come back. It’s a place we truly believe everyone should see at least once in their lifetime.
